[Iceland]The Most Feminist Country in the World

Iceland: the world's most feminist country

I am aware of that topic, this is a different article. Vision: The Most Feminist Place in the World | World | AlterNet

Quote Quote from random excerpts follow(NAU WIT COMMETZ!)
This walkout happened two weeks after Iceland was officially proclaimed, for the second year in a row, the most feminist place in the world, the top scorer on the World Economic Forum’s 2010 Global Gender Gap Rankings, followed by three other Nordic countries: Norway, Finland and Sweden. Iceland, by 2010, according to the report’s authors, had closed 85 percent of the achievement gap between women and men -- proving itself to have more gender equality[LC: What kinds of men's rights issues is Iceland devoted to? Hm? I wonder...] than 133 other countries measured in the study, including the United States (which jumped from thirty-first on the list to nineteenth).
As in the United States, where almost all hedge-fund managers are men, Iceland’s Locomotive Group is a masculine enterprise. Overwhelmingly constituted of men, the group’s network of financiers and policy-makers created an environment where short-term profits trumped long-term growth and accountability to investors and citizens[LC: OH NOES! Teh sexist pigz!]. Many lived it up in fast cars, fancy suits, bars and, according to Feminist Society of Iceland spokeswoman Halla Gunnarsdóttir, strip clubs. They made the argument that only men, not women, have what it takes, the bravado to take enormous risks.
Given Iceland’s active women’s movement and the gendered lenses through which Icelanders saw the crisis, it is unsurprising that in the spring of 2009, when the government collapsed, Icelanders voted into office Jóhanna Siguröardóttir -- the country’s first female prime minister and the world’s first openly gay top leader -- and the parties on the left that were the successors to the Women’s Alliance, a party of women for women. In 1999 the Women’s Alliance fractured and its members were absorbed by two umbrella parties, both of which adopted gender quotas for party lists and all elected bodies within the party[LC: Gender quotas... hold on a sec. You mean to tell me that women are equal to men, but women like me require quotas to aquire political office. I smell discrimination!] . The Women’s Alliance had been a voice of reason during the privatization frenzy in 1998–2002, advocating keeping at least one national bank. In the wake of the 2008 collapse, people called for “feminine values” to replace the Viking hypermasculinity.
Iceland’s left government -- a coalition of the Social Democratic Alliance and the Left-Green Movement -- has passed a flurry of woman-friendly policies[LC: read as discrimination against men]. A 2009 law, modeled on one in Sweden, criminalizes the purchase of sex, while continuing to protect women prostitutes from prosecution. Another closed down the strip clubs and eliminated lap dancing[LC: Somehow, I think this really disempowers sex-workers, I mean shit, now these people have to worry about more dangerous people. Brilliant move Iceland!]. A March 2010 law extended a 40 percent quota[LC:This is discrimination at work, what about quotas for men for female domininated fields? ZING!] for women on most government boards of mid-size and large businesses. Other legislation last year included legalizing same-sex marriage[LC: I'm fine with this actually, I'd prefer it be called a civil union though] and allowing access to donor eggs and sperm for single women and gay couples. Longer-term achievements of Iceland’s feminist movement have also included generous government-provided parental leave to be shared by women and men and subsidized high-quality preschools and day care, which allow most parents to combine parenting and work.[LC: Great, I want the state to turn into something I'm supposed to do? Um... lol wut? I'm sorry but I actually don't want the state to raise my son]
My comments are in the excerpts.

You forget they banned strip clubs. While apparently they weren't incredibly popular (in fact a lot of people would move there temporarily just to strip) they still aren't allowed to be strippers. Apparently giving women less choices is now part of being a "feminist"

Which confirms my thoughts, feminism is a misogynistic baby-hating movement. They want to complain about MRAs being misogynist douches but they are WORSE. Fuck them, they can leave my baby and my hubby's rights alone. They can leave my rights to choose to perform x activity alone too.

Re: [Iceland]The Most Feminist Country in the World

Any country that has laws on the books setting quotas for female vs male inclusion in corporate boards, government offices, and mid to large size companies ranks quite low on the equality scale. If you have to have laws to support this, does the outcome really stand for equal rights? Or does it stand for legislated sexism? I wonder how the female dominated government of Iceland will fare in the future, they have a wrecked economy due to poor economic policies, and of course the bank meltdown. What is not really highlighted is the number of women in high power financial positions in Iceland. They blame the hard driving alpha male financial wizards for the collapse, yet the high power female financial wizards seem to be getting a get of of jail card merely because of their gender. Where is the vilification of the female financial despots?

There are more civilized values to be found in a penguin society than in a feminist society.

No wonder mum's gone to Iceland *drumroll*............

Iceland, by 2010, according to the report’s authors, had closed 85 percent of the achievement gap between women and men
Really? So men are gaining custody of their children nearly as often as are women? Men's health is receiving nearly as much funding, as is women's?

I jest! Looks as though the hearts of many Icelandic women have been turned as ice cold as the weather.

What a shithole. It will all erupt in their faces, in the end. And there I was, thinking that Iceland was a GOOD place for geysers......

.....okay, enough of the Iceland-related puns....

That's okay. The more nations that take on this nonsense, the more we will see the results. Sri Lanka, India, obviously the above Scandinavian nations, and sub-Saharan Africa will all devolve into chaos, making the few remaining places that actually accept men and manhood that much easier to grow.

Scary, but I guess gotta look for a silver lining. 50 years from now the West will be no different than the scenes you see in Kasama, Abidjan, Harare, or Varanasi. My only hope is that there is a resurgence of patriarchy somewhere, which will make it possible to emerge from the next Dark Age of Feminism.
